Nothing makes us smile like seeing parents and caregivers who came to SCT when they were young, now bringing their own children to experience the wonder and thrill of live theatre. More than a celebration of the past, our 50th anniversary is an opportunity to extend this legacy of world-class performance, life-changing theatre education, and most of all, accessible theatre experiences for everyone.

The faceted mountain design was inspired by pojagi, a Korean art form making beautiful cloths out of scrap fabric, which were used to deliver gifts. The cloth protected the gift during the long and often perilous journey. Pojagi is a symbol of the journey each of us takes, over the mountain and beneath the stars, as well as the gift we each carry along the way: the gift of our presence. Just as each “patch” of the mountain is different, when brought together, the whole becomes more than the sum of its parts. This mural is an invitation to ponder how we can come together to create something bigger than ourselves—not in spite of our differences, but because of them.

Juliana Kang Robinson

Artist Bio

Born in South Korea, Juliana Kang Robinson lives and works in the Seattle area. She received her MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and works in a variety of media.

Public art commissions include projects for Sound Transit, the Seattle Parks & Recreation, the Seattle Center, Seattle Office of Arts & Culture, Seattle Department of Transportation, City of San Francisco, City of Cupertino, Euphrat Museum and City of Bellevue.

Past projects include installations for the Seattle Museum of Art such as SAM LIGHTS and the Seattle Asian Art Museum Lunar New Year event, as well as exhibitions at Kala Art Institute, the Women’s Studio Workshop, Ox Bow School of Art, SomArts Gallery, The Asian American Women Artists Association, Asia Society, Diaspora Vibe Gallery, the Korean Cultural Center in Los Angeles and Method Gallery.

She has taught at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, University of California at Berkeley, California College of Art and De Anza College.
