Reading Resources

At SCT we know reading is the foundation of learning. By learning to read, children are empowered to build language skills, learn about the world, develop empathy, expand their imagination, and so much more. On this page, you’ll find a comprehensive list of organizations and resources created to support and enhance children’s reading experiences.

Reading Partners

Reading Partners is a national nonprofit that mobilizes communities to provide students with the proven, individualized reading support they need to read at grade level by fourth grade. Reading Partners works with local schools to provide one-on-one tutoring to students and give individualized support to each student in the program.

Imagination Library of Washington

Imagination Library of Washington (a branch of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library) is a book gifting program that mails free, high-quality books to children every month from birth to age five, no matter their family’s income. You can enroll your child by using the registration form made available on their website.

Page Ahead

Page Ahead provides new books and develops reading activities that empower at-risk children. Programs include Book Up Summer where K–2 students at majority low-income elementaries choose 12 new books from a book fair at school to keep and read during the summer, Story Leaders a preschool reading and story time program, and Book Oasis a program to build, stock, and maintain Little Free Libraries for kids living in “book deserts” in the Seattle area.

Little Free Library

Little Free Library aims to be a catalyst for building community, inspiring readers, and expanding book access for all through a global network of volunteer-led Little Free Library book-exchange boxes. To find a library near you just head to their website and check out their Little Free Library map.

Seattle Public Library

Check out your local Seattle Public Library for online readers’ resources! Resources include programs such as BookFlix which pairs more than 120 animated stories with nonfiction e-books on similar topics and TumbleBookLibrary which helps your child build reading, math and language skills with a fun collection of animated, talking picture books for preschool and elementary-age children.
