Educator FAQ
SCT is partnering with The From-Home Fest to present this production of The Girl Who Swallowed A Cactus, written by Eric Coble and performed by Tia Shearer Bassett. This is an exclusive, interactive theatre experience, performed live on Zoom by a professional performer. Watch from the convenience of your classroom with no need to be concerned with buses.
One ticket equals one screen to view the performance. Single flat price per ticket. We recommend one ticket per classroom, up to 50 students, so that they can each have their own section of the Zoom room.
Links will be delivered via email 1 day prior to the show.
Audiences can expect a participatory introduction from the artist at the beginning of the show, when she will get ideas from children who wish to share. In various moments in the production, the audience may be invited to do things as a group, like make sound effects from their homes (even though everyone is muted). Immediately following each performance, Tia, the performer, will hold a brief Q&A when audience members are invited to talk directly to Tia. This show will be “gently interactive.”
At this time, we are not offering the option to record or rewatch this production. Please be prepared to have your class watching the entire duration of the performance in one sitting.
The show will be performed Live on Zoom. You will need to download the Zoom app prior to your performance, but you will not need a Zoom account to view. However, if you would like to create a Zoom account, or already have one, that is acceptable.
More instructions to come at the time of performance, but SCT Staff members will be available in the Zoom meeting to assist with technical issues. Note that the performer will not be able to assist with any technical issues during the production.
We ask that all cameras are on during the preshow, though cameras may be turned off once the production begins. For the best experience, audience members are encouraged to keep their camera on during the performance.
We continue to develop new ways to create access for our schools and educators. Email schoolprograms@sct.org to indicate your interest in digital Dramatic Connection workshops for this production. Visit our Dramatic Connections page to learn more about workshop offerings for our other in-person Mainstage productions.
Just like our in-person performances you will only be able to make changes up until 4 weeks before your performance date in order to ensure the performance runs as smoothly as possible.
