Drama School Policies
RULES AND STUFF: ALL THE NECESSARY THINGS TO HELP SCT DRAMA SCHOOL RUN SMOOTHLY AND SAFELY.
We are thrilled to have your students in class, with us online, or in one of our partnership camps. To ensure that everyone has the best possible experience, we ask that you review the following for a satisfying SCT Drama School experience. Thank you; we couldn’t do it without you!
SAFE STUDENT POLICY – SUMMER 2021
Students must complete a health screening assessment every morning prior to arriving at SCT. Upon arrival, students will have their temperature taken by a member of SCT education team and a parent must verify that the temperature was taken and that no other COVID-19 symptoms are present by sharing a completed and approved health screening assessment. At this time, only SCT staff and students are allowed in the building. Students and staff are not permitted to attend camps if they can answer yes to any of the following questions and receive an alert on their health screening form.
- Do you have a fever of 100 degrees or higher, chills, cough, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, recent loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion, nausea or vomiting, diarrhea?
- Within the past 14 days, have you been in close contact with anyone that you know had COVID-19 or COVID-like symptoms?
- Have you had a positive COVID-19 test for active virus in the past 10 days, or are you awaiting results of a COVID-19 test?
If a student presents a fever or reports feeling ill during camp, that student will immediately isolate with an SCT staff member in a designated area. The student must be picked up by an approved guardian within an hour of notification, and may not return to camp for the remainder of the day. For subsequent camp days, the student may return if they display no symptoms, pass a temperature check and complete a health screening assessment. In the case where a student who attended camp is exposed to COVID-19, SCT will notify all parents of students who attended the same classroom immediately, and the class will be transitioned to an online format. All other classes in the building will resume as long as there has been no exposure to the virus. In addition, all other families in the building will be notified of classroom exposure and informed it does not impact their student’s classroom. All children’s personal information will remain confidential during this process.
If the symptoms are not the result of COVID-19, the student can return to camp after they have been symptom free for 24 hours. Any student with symptoms of suspected or confirmed COVID-19 can return to camp when:
- At least 24 hours have passed since recovery (defined as no fever without the use of medications and improvement in respiratory symptoms like cough and shortness of breath); and
- At least 10 days have passed since the symptoms first appeared and with a negative Covid test result;
If a parent believes their student had close physical contact with someone with COVID-19 but they are not showing signs of illness, their health should be closely monitored for development of a fever, cough, shortness of breath and other COVID-19 symptoms for at least 14 days following the last day they were in contact with the person infected with COVID-19. The student should not attend camp or other public places for those 14 days. If exposure and quarantine happen prior to the start of camp into the week of camp, we will put a credit on account. If exposure and quarantine happen during camp week, that camp will move to online.
All illness or close physical contact with someone with COVID-19 must be reported to staff immediately.
During class and at the end of day teaching artists, class assistants, and interns will wipe and disinfect all surfaces and class materials during class transitions. In addition, custodial crews will sanitize all common areas and classrooms at the end of each day. All students and staff are required to wear a mask and comply with social distancing rules throughout the building.
VIRTUAL SAFE STUDENT POLICY
In order to keep our Zoom meetings secure and to ensure students’ safety while using Zoom, SCT staff and teaching artists follow best practices for securing our classrooms, including, but not limited to:
- E-mail invitation link or Meeting ID & password are required to participate in meetings
- An SCT staff person will be the administrator of each class/meeting and a staff person or teaching artist(s) will move between Breakout Rooms during class.
- All video guests enter a “Waiting Room” and the hosts (SCT staff or teaching artist) manually accept guests to enter the meeting.
- Please use your first/last name and pronoun as your user/display name. If we do not recognize your display name, we will not let you into the meeting. (To quickly change your Zoom display name: click the “...” button in the corner of your video screen OR right click your video, then select “Rename.”)
- Zoom’s new “Security” button provides immediate tech support help.
- Students agree not to share links or record sessions for any purpose.
- SCT will not record class sessions for any reason unless prior written consent is obtained from each family that clearly outlines the expectations and use for such recordings. If classes are being recorded, Teaching Artists will remind students at the beginning of the class.
As students depend on their scene partners, class attendance is necessary. However, if your student will be late or needs to miss a class due to an illness please alert the Drama School as soon as possible at firstname.lastname@example.org or by calling 206.859.40479.
- If a registration is canceled after it has been processed, but at least two weeks before the class begins, a full refund minus registration fees will be given. Registration fees are non-refundable ($25 for half-day camps and weekly classes and $50 for full-day classes and camps.
- We do not offer refunds for registrations canceled less than two weeks before the class starts. However, any tuition that you’ve paid for the canceled class, (minus the registration fee), can be used towards either a future Drama School tuition, or tickets for the Mainstage shows through the end of the current season.
- SCT reserves the right to cancel a class. In this case, any tuition paid will be refunded in full, including the registration fee.
- No refund or make-up classes will be provided for classes cancelled due to inclement weather.
- SCT Drama School classes will be canceled on days that Seattle Public Schools are closed due to weather conditions.
- We want all students to be satisfied with their experience at the Drama School. If, after completing the first day of class, you decide that it’s not for you, just let us know before the second class and we will refund your payment (minus the registration fee). After the second day of class, no tuition or enrollment adjustments can be made.
At time of registration, you must complete the SCT Media and Emergency Treatment/Liability Release for each of your students. If you register via our website, you will be prompted to complete the agreement before proceeding with payment. If you register via email, SCT Education staff will email you a link to the online release form with your receipt. This release needs to be completed only once and does not expire. If at any time you would like to update your student’s media permissions or medical information, please send the Drama School an email at email@example.com with any changes and/or additions.
Registrations are processed in the order they are received. Registrations are accepted as long as space is available or until the second time a class meets, whichever comes first. If you register via our website, a receipt will be automatically emailed to you within fifteen minutes of completing your registration. If you register via email, the SCT Education staff member who assisted you will generate and send you a receipt by the end of the business day. We do not offer prorated tuition.
To secure space in a class, a non-refundable registration fee is included in the tuition price. Fees are $25 for half-day classes and $50 for full-day classes. Tuition must be paid in full at the time of registration or a payment plan must be arranged. There is a $20 service fee for any checks returned by the bank due to insufficient funds.
Pending enrollment, you may switch from one class to another more than two weeks before the class begins without incurring an additional registration fee. If you switch less than two weeks before the beginning of the class, you must pay the additional registration fee of $25 per half-day class or $50 for a full-day program.
We maintain waitlists for any full classes. Once it has been determined that a class will be added, we will notify interested parties by email and/or phone in the order the waitlist registrations were received.
SCT is committed to providing theatre and theatre education to all children regardless of a family's financial situation. In support of our mission, we offer payment plans and need-based scholarships to our families. In addition, we offer Blue Star military and veteran discounts.
Scholarships are granted on a case-by-case basis to those families who demonstrate a financial need, and who would be otherwise unable to participate in our classes. Because of budget limitations, we are generally only able to cover one class per student per session for each eligible family. Applications for scholarships are on a rolling basis, but scholarships are limited so please submit your application as early as possible. Applications will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis. You will be notified of your financial aid decision approximately one week after submitting your application. Unless prior arrangements are made with the Drama School, the remaining balance of tuition, if any, must be paid in full prior to the start of class.

Payment Plans may be used by anyone, regardless of financial need. This option is available to families who prefer to split their balance into two or three installments. No application is required; if you would like to arrange a payment plan, email the Drama School at firstname.lastname@example.org. Unless prior arrangements are made with the Drama School, the balance of tuition, if any, must be paid in full prior to the start of class.
