Book and Lyrics by Marcy Heisler

Music by Zina Godrich

For Actors in 3rd – 7th Grades

Details

Step into the spotlight on SCT’s professional stages for our youth production of Dear Edwina Jr., a heartwarming and hilarious musical about growing up, friendship, and finding your voice! When advice giving teen Edwina Spoonapple sets out to share her wisdom through her neighborhood “Advice A Palooza,” she and her friends sing, dance, and learn that the best advice often comes from the heart.

In this performance-based program, students will work side-by-side with local theatre professionals including directors, choreographers, and designers to bring a fully staged musical to life. Through rehearsals and creative collaboration, young performers will build acting, singing, and movement skills while gaining a behind the scenes understanding of how professional theatre is made.

The experience culminates in performances on SCT’s mainstage, complete with lights, sound, and costume magic!

This program is audition-based. Before you audition, please confirm that you can meet the rehearsal schedule, the tech week, and performance schedule. Please see the Rehearsal Schedule tab below.

Meet the Creative Team

Zoey Reese

Director
Zoey Reese (she/her) is a Seattle transplant, originally raised in the desert of New Mexico. Her favorite animal is her dog Tofu, the most awesome role she ever had was Peter in Peter Pan (flying!), she loves camping with her wife, and she will always eat more noodles! After studying at Oklahoma City University, she’s spent the best part of the last few decades working with young people as a music and theatre teaching artist, a dancer with all ages at the National Dance Institute, a children’s theater Education Director, and a facilitator with middle, high school, and university students doing eco-based service-learning throughout Southeast Asia. Her performance experience is lifelong and ranges from roles in musical theatre, Shakespeare and Mammet, to on-camera and voiceover performances as well. She believes children’s theatre, and young people’s education in theatre should be of quality, be caring and curious, and most importantly FUN!

Megan Felise Garcia

Choreographer
Megan Felise Garcia (she/her) is delighted to be making her debut on the Seattle Children's Theatre stage! Born and raised in Honolulu, Hawai'i, she was trained in Hula, Hip-Hop, Ballet, Musical Theatre, Jazz, and Modern Dance. Credits include: Ariel Double/Ensemble - Disney's The Little Mermaid (5th Avenue Theatre), A Year With Frog And Toad (Ballyhoo Theatre), Alice in Wonderland: Through The Looking Glass (Verlaine and McCann), and The Memphis Belles as Megan Moon Pie (NM Entertainment). Megan is also a Teaching Artist and Choreographer based in Seattle, WA. Thank you to Ocean, my family, and friends for your endless love and support!

More Info

In-person auditions are at SCT and occur Tuesday-Friday, December 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th with 15-minute slots from 4:00-7:15 PM.

You can reserve your audition slot here.

Students in 3rd – 7th grade can audition. Up to 20 will be selected for the cast.

What you’ll need for your audition:

  • A recent printed picture on 8.5×11 paper. This picture should be of you from the shoulders up. If you do not have a picture of you from the shoulders up, we will take one. If you have headshots, you can provide them.
  • You do not need to have previous performance experience. However, if you have been on stage before, create a short document that has the name of the show and the role you played to give to our director. You can also include any drama, music, or dance classes you’ve been in. That’s helpful to know, too!
  • A 1-to-2-minute monologue that’s memorized. It should show the director how you can portray emotions believably. Need help finding a monologue? Take a look at our Audition Prep Guidelines below.
  • 16 bars or 30-45 seconds of a song. The song should be upbeat and not put too much stress on your voice. Make sure it’s in a range that feels comfortable for you. You can sign acapella (which means without music) or you can bring some sheet music for us to play on the piano for you.

Callbacks are a second round of auditions that will occur in person at SCT on Wednesday, December 10, 2025 from 4:00-8:00 PM. We will notify auditionees by Saturday, December 6, 2025 if they receive a call back. Please note: callbacks must be in person.

The cast announcement will be on Friday, December 12, 2025, with registration opening online immediately following.

To make participation in Youth Company more accessible, we’ve adopted a voluntary tiered pricing structure. Once cast, you and your family can choose the tuition tier level right for you. We will keep tuition information confidential. The tuition level you choose will not influence casting in any way.

$925 This tuition level most accurately accounts for the true cost of this production, including royalties, director’s fees, set and costume materials, and the professional personnel who work behind-the-scenes to ensure the production and class goes smoothly.

$800 This is our traditional tuition rate for this program. Paying this amount will go a long way towards helping to cover the costs of this production.

$675 We hope this tuition rate will allow more families to participate and comfortably contribute to the costs of the production.

If your family could use some extra help covering the cost of Youth Company, we invite you to apply for financial aid! You can learn more and find the application on our website. Our financial aid program is made possible through the generosity of Seattle Children’s Theatre donors—we’re so grateful for their support in helping make theatre accessible to everyone.

Families can request payment plans for their tuition by emailing dramaschool@sct.org at the time of registration. All payments must be completed by May 1, 2026.

Each tuition includes three complimentary tickets to one performance during the run of the production. Complimentary tickets must be used in this same performance.

Public tickets are $18 each for performances on April 4, 2026 and April 5, 2026.

Pay-What-You-Wish performance: Friday, April 3, 2026 at 7PM

Seattle Children’s Theatre is committed to making live theatre accessible to all. Our Pay-What-You-Wish (PWYW) performances offer free or low-cost tickets to young people, families, educators, and arts collaborators—because the cost of a ticket should never be a barrier to experiencing the joy of theatre.

Tickets will be available for purchasing on January 26, 2026.
