Audio Described Performances

One of the central aspects of Seattle Children's Theatre's mission is a commitment to serving diverse communities including those with low vision or blindness. Audio Described performances are available throughout the season. Please see below for more information.

AUDIO DESCRIBED PERFORMANCES

What is Audio Description? - Audio Description (AD) is a narration service that turns the production into an auditory experience. Using headphones, visually impaired audience members hear live description of the visual aspects of theatre, helping them to share in the experience of live theatre more fully. Audio Description is given using concise, objective descriptions to depict new scenes, settings, costumes, body language, and sight gags.

Starting about 10 minutes prior to every AD performance, there is a brief description of the theatre itself as well as credits and descriptions of the actors and other information that is in the program. On the day of the performance, headsets for audio description are available through the house manager.

For questions, please contact Susanna Pugh, Associate Director of Operations, at 206.443.0807 or susannap@sct.org.
