Arts Based Learning

In partnership with Kaiser Permanente, SCT’s Arts Based Learning Program (ABL) fosters learning through arts practices (creative play and applied theatre) to support the mental health and wellness of students and their teachers in Washington state. We are proud to offer two virtual learning sessions free for qualifying schools* during the 2020-2021 school year: Our mental health workshop Ghosted for students in grades 8-12 and Rise Up, a professional development workshop on trauma-informed instructional practices for teachers, administrators, and school staff.

Kaiser Permanente plays an instrumental role in the development and evaluation of all ABL programming and creates opportunities for SCT’s teaching artists to train with mental health organizations such as the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI).

*Qualifying schools have high rates of students who receive free or reduced-price lunch.
