Volunteer

Thank you for your interest in becoming part of our Volunteer Team!

SCT is such a special place, volunteers make it that way. Volunteers make an impact in two ways. First, they are the face of SCT. Often the welcoming smile and helpful information given by a volunteer SCT member is what our guests remember most about their experience here. Second, volunteers do essential tasks for our patrons that are extremely important to our ability to make a show run smoothly.  Thank you for your interest in volunteering. Read on to learn more.

FAQ

What kind of commitment should I expect?

We are deeply appreciative of your time and positive energy! The amount of commitment required depends on the capacity in which you and your family volunteer. We encourage our Volunteer Ushers to usher at least once per show during the season. If you are interested in other volunteer opportunities, such as working with our Drama School Program, send us a note at volunteering@sct.org for more info.

What kind of training will there be?

Each new Volunteer will be trained on all tasks before their volunteer work begins. Volunteer Usher training takes place briefly before the lobby opens at each show.

Who may volunteer?

If you are at least 8 years old, and accompanied by an adult, we’d love to have you volunteer with us! Volunteer roles vary per position, and we recommend visiting the sections above to see what works for you. If you’re interested in a role, fill out the form below to get started!

Volunteer Roles

TICKET SCANNERS | Ticket Scanners are responsible for scanning tickets and greeting patrons as they arrive. They provide patrons with show information such as run time and show content. After the completion of the show, Ticket Scanners are expected to walk the theatre, picking up any garbage and retrieving lost and found items.

GREETERS | Greeters are positioned at the bottom of the accessible ramp or top of the main staircase, welcoming patrons, directing them to the door listed on their ticket, and providing any printed materials. Greeters are responsible for assisting patrons with mobility needs to their appropriate entrance, as well as directing patrons to the restroom, gift shop, concessions, upper lobby, etc. They should be knowledgeable about our facility and lobby spaces and comfortable guiding patrons. After the completion of the show, Greeters are expected to act as stage watchers and ensure there is no photography of the stage.

USHER | Ushers are stationed in one of the entrance doorways or in front of the stage. This important role is responsible for reminding patrons to stay off of the stage and not take pictures of the stage. These ushers greet patrons entering the theatre and assist them to their seats. This position is also responsible for helping with accessible seating. After the completion of the show, Ushers are expected to assist any patrons with returning to the lobby from accessible seating. If there are no patrons in need of assistance, they help with picking up garbage and retrieving lost and found items in the theatre.

GIFT SHOP/CONCESSIONS ASSISTANT | Those comfortable working with our Point of Sale system may assist with Gift Shop and Concessions sales. This position interacts directly with patrons making purchases, helping to answer questions. They also help keep the area neat and tidy. After the completion of the show, the Gift Shop/Concessions Assistant returns to the Gift Shop to carry out post-performance purchases.
