CLASS ASSISTANTSHIPS FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

This is a great opportunity to share your own theatre experience with children ages of 3½ - 8, and to explore the field of teaching and working with kids. You can earn service learning/community service credit for school, or earn a great discount on a Drama School class for yourself. Placement by interview only.

SUMMER 2012 INTERNSHIPS

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: BA preferred (minimum of two years of college required).

STIPEND: $140 per full-time week

EDUCATION INTERNS

Each summer about 14 Education Interns provide teaching assistance and administrative support to instructors teaching a wide variety of theatre classes and performance programs to students ages 3 to 21. These internships are ideal for those with an interest in arts education.

ADMINISTRATIVE INTERN

Responsibilities include customer service and communication, schedule and database management, and general program support. The Administrative Intern will also provide teaching assistance and administrative support to instructors. This internship is ideal for those with an interest in production or business management for the arts.

STAGE MANAGEMENT INTERNS

Each summer, Seattle Children's Theatre Drama School produces several plays in the Charlotte Martin Theatre at SCT. These productions are for student actors, directed by teaching artists, and designed/produced by professional designers and SCT staff. We hire 3 stage management interns who are responsible for technical rehearsals and calling the shows.

UNPAID TECHNICAL ASSISTANTSHIPS

Assistants are trained to run shows and perform basic stage maintenance by a professional IATSE union crew mentor. All assistants gain hands-on enxperience working in both the Charlotte Martin and Eve Alvord Theatres, and in our technical pavilion. Positions are available in the following areas:


  • Stage Carpentry: Assist the Technical Director and Stage Technician with assembling and building the scenic elements for each show. Acts as stagehand during performances.

  • Costume Design and Construction: Assists the Costume Designer with assembling, building and pulling costumes for each show. May act as a dresser for performances as needed.

  • Property Design and Construction: Assists the Props Master with assembling, building and pulling props for each show. May be asked to work on backstage crew as needed.

  • Electrics: Assists the Lighting Designer/ Master Electrician with the hang and focus of the lighting design. Programming and running the ETC Obsession 2 light board for rehearsals and performances.

  • Sound: Assists the Sound Designer with installation and maintenance, technical rehearsals and performances using SFX software and live mics.


    DATES:

    Late-June to mid-August. Most Assistantships are full time (30-40 hrs/week), although this may vary depending on the demands of each show.


    EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

    High school or college age students. Previous backstage experience is required.
