Volunteers

Volunteering at Seattle Children's Theatre can be fun, rewarding, and educational. By volunteering with us, you will have the opportunity to learn all about the world of live theatre—from the writing, designing, and directing of our plays to the front of house and administrative functions of SCT. We look forward to having you join the SCT family as a member of the SCT Supporters!

To sign up to join the SCT Supporters contact the Volunteer Coordinator, Tammy Hase.

Who may Volunteer?

Depending on the position, we take volunteers starting at age 8, as long as accompanied by an adult. See below for specific age requirements.

Commitment

Your time and a $5.00 annual membership fee per family. We require that you volunteer a minimum of 12 hours during the season. Volunteers may be as young as 8 when accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Training

Each new SCT Supporter must participate in a training workshop prior to beginning their volunteer work. Training can be scheduled approximately 30 minutes before the start of your first shift.

VOLUNTEER POSITIONS

Ushers

Open to volunteers 8 years of age or older who are accompanied by a parent or guardian, Usher duties include any of the following: stuffing and passing out programs, light cleaning of the theatre, ticket taking, stage watching, assisting at concession stands, and watching the gift shop. Each shift is approximately 3 hours.

Classroom Assistants

Open to volunteers 16 years of age or older, Assistants help the teacher in class with everything from administrative support to leading warm-up exercises. Classes typically meet for 90 minutes, once-a-week, for eleven weeks.

Administrative

Many projects in our marketing and development departments require very little time commitment and are flexible in nature. Typically, Administrative Volunteers must be at least 14 years of age and are needed during the work week. Projects subject to availability and skill set.

Special Events and Outreach

Special Events Volunteers assist with fund raising events and functions for our donors. They often get the chance to attend the function they are helping with, such as a drama workshop or a read-through of a script. Scheduling for these events is on an as-needed basis.

Outreach Volunteers represent SCT at fairs and conferences in the community. They help to set up booths, distribute brochures, lead activities, and answer questions about Seattle Children's Theatre. They often receive the benefit of attending the event they are working, such as the Kids Fair or a Discover Music concert at the Seattle Symphony. Scheduling for these events happens on an as-needed basis.
