Morgan’s Journey has been delighting children and their families around the world for nearly three decades. The play is a captivating exploration of joyous yet challenging childhood experiences and offers audiences a unique opportunity for active participation. From the moment of his birth, we follow Morgan the Clown on a journey of discovery. We delight in the presents he receives, especially his last one, a wise sock puppet who becomes his companion. Encountering inevitable growing pains, Morgan learns a valuable and moving lesson about love and the true meaning of friendship.
SCT Artistic Director Linda Hartzell says, “Robert Morgan is one of the most charming entertainers I have ever seen. By allowing the audience to participate in this lovely, emotionally evocative performance, he shows us a child’s perspective on growing up, learning to share, and making friends. You will laugh, want to dance, and be moved by the sweet storytelling from this master at work.”

From the moment of his birth, audiences follow Morgan the Clown on a journey of self-discovery. Together they celebrate his birthday and share his delight opening the presents he receives, which includes a simple sock puppet named Herkimer who becomes his companion. Through an experience common to many children, Morgan learns a valuable and moving lesson about love and the true meaning of friendship. This production, with a creative drama post-play experience, is the perfect show to transition your child into the world of theatre.
Morgan has performed Morgan’s Journey for toddlers and elementary school children as well as at large corporate events, always managing to deliver the play’s simple and profound message that friendship trumps material possessions. The play’s interactive structure allows Morgan to tailor his character and delivery to the audience in front of him – a skill he has honed over many years of performing this play.
Morgan has written more than twenty professionally produced plays, many of which have toured nationally and internationally and he has acted in and directed more than forty productions. He has won the prestigious Chalmers Award for outstanding Canadian play six times and four of his plays have won the Dora Mavor Moore Award for best production in Canada. His work has received a total of ten Dora nominations and has been performed around the world. In 2001, Robert became the founding Artistic Director of the Children's Peace Theatre. In its first two seasons, the Peace Theatre involved more than one hundred children and young people in an active program of training, workshops and performances. In his role as Artistic Director, Robert delivered two official presentations to the United Nations in New York at the 2002 Special Session on the Children of the World. He lives in Toronto with his wife, Susan Lee Marcus, and their two children.
